Most interviews in Hindi ask the same questions as interviews in English: tell me about yourself, why this job, your strengths and weaknesses, and your salary expectations. Below are twelve of the most common, each with a sample answer in Hindi and the same answer in English, so you can prepare in whichever language your interview runs in, or in the mix of both that most interviews in India actually use.
After the twelve, there are tips for answering in Hinglish and a separate section of questions asked in Hindi teacher interviews, such as KVS, PRT and TGT posts.
When interviews happen in Hindi
Interviews are often in Hindi, or switch into Hindi, for government and public-sector posts, banks and insurance in many states, sales and field roles, customer support for Hindi-speaking customers, and teaching. Many private-company interviews in north and central India also move between the two languages, especially in HR rounds.
You will rarely be marked down for answering in the language you are asked in. What counts is the same as in English: a clear answer, a real example, and confidence. If you are unsure, it is fine to ask, "क्या मैं हिंदी में जवाब दे सकता हूँ?" (May I answer in Hindi?)

Once I quoted a customer the price of the wrong model. As soon as I realised, I called the customer with the correct information and told my manager too. Since then I check every price in the system before quoting it. The customer later bought the phone.

Answering in Hinglish
Most interviews in India are neither pure Hindi nor pure English. Mixing the two is normal and rarely held against you, as long as each sentence is clear. A few habits help:
- Answer in the language you were asked in. If the interviewer switches, switch with them.
- Keep technical and job terms in English (target, deadline, database, invoice) even inside a Hindi sentence. That is how they are used at work.
- Avoid filler in both languages: "actually", "basically", "मतलब", "वो क्या है ना". Pause instead.
- Prepare your two or three key examples in both languages, so you are not translating in your head under pressure.

Hindi teacher interview questions (KVS, PRT, TGT)
Interviews for Hindi teaching posts, in Kendriya Vidyalayas, state schools and private schools, are usually conducted in Hindi and test both subject knowledge and teaching approach. These come up often:
आप हिंदी शिक्षक क्यों बनना चाहते हैं? (Why do you want to be a Hindi teacher?)
Give a personal reason and a teaching one: what drew you to the language, and what you want students to get from it, such as confidence in reading and writing rather than rote learning.
बच्चों में पढ़ने की रुचि कैसे जगाएँगे? (How will you make children interested in reading?)
Name concrete methods: short stories and poems read aloud, a class library corner, letting students choose a book, and linking lessons to things they know, such as festivals or songs.
व्याकरण को रोचक कैसे बनाएँगे? (How will you make grammar interesting?)
Teach from examples before rules: build sentences from students' own words, use games for संज्ञा, सर्वनाम and क्रिया, and correct mistakes in their writing rather than only in exercises.
कमज़ोर छात्र की मदद कैसे करेंगे? (How will you help a student who is falling behind?)
Find out where exactly they are stuck, give short regular practice at their level, pair them with a classmate, and keep parents informed about small improvements, not only problems.
किसी एक कवि या लेखक के बारे में बताइए। (Tell us about a poet or writer you admire.)
Prepare one in depth, such as प्रेमचंद, कबीर or महादेवी वर्मा: two or three works, what they are about, and how you would teach one of them to a particular class.
नई शिक्षा नीति में मातृभाषा के बारे में क्या कहा गया है? (What does the National Education Policy say about the mother tongue?)
The National Education Policy 2020 encourages the home language or mother tongue as the medium of instruction where possible, at least up to Class 5. Say how you would use that in a classroom with mixed home languages.
कक्षा में अनुशासन कैसे रखेंगे? (How will you maintain discipline in class?)
Set a few clear rules with the class at the start of the year, be consistent, keep lessons active so students are busy, and speak to a disruptive student privately rather than in front of others.
डिजिटल साधनों का उपयोग कैसे करेंगे? (How will you use digital tools?)
Mention specific uses: audio recordings of poems, short videos for context, typing practice in Devanagari, and online quizzes for revision, used to support the lesson rather than replace it.
How to prepare for an interview in Hindi
- Write out your answers to the twelve questions above in your own words, in Hindi and in English.
- Say them aloud, not just read them. Speaking is where hesitation shows.
- Learn the key terms of your field in both languages, so you can switch without pausing.
- Prepare one story you can tell in either language: a problem you solved, with what you did and what happened. The STAR method gives it a shape.
- Practise with someone who will ask follow-up questions, or run an AI mock interview that pushes on vague answers.

Frequently asked questions
Can I give my interview in Hindi?
Usually yes, especially if the interviewer starts in Hindi or the role involves Hindi-speaking customers or students. If you are not sure, ask politely at the start. For roles that need English at work, expect at least part of the interview in English.
Is it wrong to mix Hindi and English in an interview?
No. Most interviews in India mix the two. What matters is that each answer is clear and complete. Keep technical terms in English and answer in the language you were asked in.
How do I introduce myself in Hindi in an interview?
Use the same structure as in English: who you are now, one or two things you have done that matter for this job, and why you want it. The first sample answer above shows it in Hindi and English.
What questions are asked in a KVS Hindi teacher interview?
Expect questions on why you want to teach Hindi, how you would teach grammar and reading, how you would help weaker students, a writer you admire, the National Education Policy, and classroom discipline. The section above has approaches to each.
Will answering in Hindi lower my score?
Not in an interview conducted in Hindi, or for a role where Hindi is used at work. Interviewers judge the content and clarity of the answer. Where English is part of the job, they may also want to hear you answer in English.
