Infosys interview questions and answers: the process, roles and rounds
By Manideep · Updated 21 October 2026 · 6 min read
Infosys interview questions depend on the role you are being considered for. For the Systems Engineer role, expect an online test of reasoning, maths, verbal ability and pseudocode, then a technical and HR interview on programming basics, your project and your fit. For the higher Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer roles, a harder coding assessment comes first, and the technical interview goes deeper into data structures and problem-solving.
This guide covers the routes into Infosys, the process as recent candidates commonly report it, the questions asked in each round with sample answers, and how to prepare. Infosys changes its process between hiring seasons, so check the details in your invitation and on Infosys's official careers pages.
The roles and the routes in
| Role | What it is | How candidates usually reach it |
|---|---|---|
| Systems Engineer (SE) | The main fresher role: development, testing and maintenance on client projects. | Campus drives and off-campus hiring, through the online test. |
| Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE) | A higher technical role in areas such as full-stack, cloud and data. | A coding assessment, through campus drives or HackWithInfy. |
| Specialist Programmer (SP) | A coding-intensive role with harder problems and higher expectations. | A coding assessment, often through HackWithInfy, Infosys's coding contest. |
Infosys describes HackWithInfy on its own careers site as a coding challenge that gives participants the chance of pre-placement interviews for the Specialist Programmer and other roles in its specialised units. For the SP and DSE track, recent candidates report a long coding assessment of around three problems of rising difficulty, with your score deciding which role you are interviewed for.
The Infosys online test
For the Systems Engineer route, the online test is commonly reported to cover:
- Reasoning: puzzles, arrangements, data sufficiency and pattern recognition.
- Mathematical ability: arithmetic, probability, permutations and data interpretation.
- Verbal ability: grammar, reading comprehension and sentence correction.
- Pseudocode: reading short code and predicting its output, often with loops, recursion and arrays.
Pseudocode is where well-prepared candidates often lose marks, because it is unlike most aptitude practice. Trace code by hand: write down every variable's value at each step, rather than guessing what the code is meant to do.
Infosys technical interview questions with answers
Walk me through your project.
Cover the problem, your part, the technology and one difficulty you solved. Expect deeper questions on anything you mention, especially the database design and why you chose your tools.
What is the difference between method overloading and method overriding?
Overloading is several methods with the same name but different parameters in the same class, chosen at compile time. Overriding is a subclass providing its own version of a method it inherited, with the same signature, chosen at run time. Overloading is compile-time polymorphism; overriding is run-time polymorphism.
What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?
An abstract class can have both implemented and abstract methods, constructors and state, and a class can extend only one. An interface defines a contract that a class implements, and a class can implement several. In modern Java, interfaces can also have default methods, but they still cannot hold instance state.
What are the different types of joins in SQL?
INNER JOIN returns rows with matches in both tables. LEFT JOIN returns all rows from the left table with matches from the right, or nulls. RIGHT JOIN is the reverse. FULL OUTER JOIN returns all rows from both, matched where possible. A self join joins a table to itself, such as employees to their managers.
Explain the difference between a stack and a queue.
A stack is last in, first out: you push and pop at the same end, as with undo in an editor. A queue is first in, first out: you add at the back and remove from the front, as with print jobs. Both offer O(1) insertion and removal.
What is the time complexity of binary search, and when can you use it?
O(log n), because each step halves the search space. It only works on sorted data with random access, such as a sorted array.
What is a primary key, and how is it different from a unique key?
Both enforce uniqueness. A table has only one primary key, and it cannot be null. A table can have several unique keys, and depending on the database, a unique column may allow nulls.
Solve a coding problem live (SP and DSE).
For the higher roles, expect a medium-level problem on arrays, strings, hashing or simple dynamic programming. Talk through a brute-force approach first, then improve it, state the time and space complexity, and test with an edge case before you say you are done.
Coding rounds reward thinking out loud. Our AI coding interview assistant page shows how ClearMyRound gives the approach, the code and the complexity during a live round.
Infosys HR interview questions with answers
Tell me about yourself.
One minute: your degree, one relevant project or internship, and why Infosys. Our guide to tell me about yourself has sample answers for freshers.
Why Infosys?
Mention something specific, such as its training programme for new joiners or the kind of client work you are interested in. Sample: "Infosys trains freshers properly before they join projects, and its work in cloud and digital services is the area I want to build my career in."
Are you comfortable relocating, including for training?
Infosys is widely known for its training programme for new joiners at its Mysuru campus, and project locations vary. If you are comfortable, say so clearly.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Growth inside this kind of role, such as becoming strong in a technology and leading a module. See our guide to where do you see yourself in 5 years.
Tell me about a time you worked in a team.
Use the STAR method, and be clear about your own part rather than the team's.
How to prepare for an Infosys interview
- Find out which route you are on, SE or SP and DSE, because the preparation differs.
- For SE: practise reasoning and maths with timed tests, and trace pseudocode by hand until it is quick.
- For SP and DSE: solve medium and some hard coding problems, especially on arrays, strings, hashing, greedy algorithms and dynamic programming.
- Revise OOP, DBMS and SQL, operating systems and data structures.
- Prepare your project in depth, and answers to the common HR interview questions.
Then practise the interview itself out loud. An AI mock interview set up with your resume and the Infosys role asks one question at a time and pushes on vague answers, the way a real panel does.

Frequently asked questions
How many rounds are there in the Infosys interview?
Usually an online test, followed by a technical interview and an HR interview. For the Specialist Programmer and Digital Specialist Engineer roles, a harder coding assessment comes first, and the technical interview is more demanding.
What is HackWithInfy?
Infosys's coding contest. According to Infosys's careers site, participants can earn pre-placement interview opportunities for the Specialist Programmer role and other roles in its specialised units.
What is the difference between Infosys SE, DSE and SP?
Systems Engineer is the main fresher role. Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer are higher technical roles reached through a harder coding assessment, with Specialist Programmer the most coding-intensive.
Is pseudocode important for the Infosys test?
Yes, for the Systems Engineer test. It asks you to predict the output of short code, and tracing each variable by hand is the most reliable way to answer.
Does the Infosys recruitment process change?
Yes. Test sections, role names and routes change between hiring seasons, so check your invitation and Infosys's official careers pages for the current process.
